How this is calculated

Both bills use the same 1200 km a month. Petrol is priced at the official BUDI95 rate for 29 Oct - 4 Nov 2026, RM1.99 per litre. The BYD Atto 3 Standard is charged 80% at home on the TNB residential tariff and 20% at public DC fast chargers.

Petrol per month
1200 km × 7.0 L/100km ÷ 100 × RM1.99 = RM167.16
EV energy per month
1200 km × 14.5 kWh/100km ÷ 100 = 174.0 kWh
Home charging (80%)
139.2 kWh at TNB tiered rates = RM30.35
Public DC charging (20%)
34.8 kWh × RM1.20 = RM41.76
EV per month
RM30.35 + RM41.76 = RM72.11
Yearly fuel saving
(RM167.16 − RM72.11) × 12 = +RM1,140.65
Break-even (price premium ÷ yearly saving incl. road tax)
RM67,410 ÷ (RM1,141 + RM90) = 54.8 years

301 to 600 kWhRM0.516

Above 900 kWhRM0.571

Minimum monthly charge: RM3.00. Each band is charged only on the units that fall inside it.

Assumptions

  • 80% of charging at home, 20% at public DC fast chargers costing RM1.20 per kWh.
  • A comparable petrol car costs 55% of the EV's price (RM82,390), so the EV costs RM67,410 more up front.
  • Road tax on the EV is about RM90 a year cheaper.

Note: This is a simplified comparison. Assumes 80% home charging + 20% public DC charging. Electricity cost uses TNB residential tariffs. EV prices are on-the-road estimates. Actual savings depend on your driving patterns, charging habits, and electricity usage.
